Collaboration Project with Virgil Ortiz

On August 10, 2024, the 344th anniversary of the Pueblo Revolt, Virgil Ortiz’s Daybreak of the Resistance opened at Container Turner Carroll Gallery in Oga Po’geh, or Santa Fe as it is known today. Ortiz and collaborative artist Jonathan Sánchez Noa presented the Daybreak storyline in an immersive art experience featuring unique papermaking artworks. These works are inspired by the multiplicity and vastness between the alchemical, political, and spiritual nature of both Cochiti and Taíno people. Incorporating ceramics and papermaking in experimental ways these works explore tactics of Indigenous survivance; through the recreation of new mythologies, this project draws parallels between traditional practices, material culture, and chronopoetics of futurity.
